The Ministry of Energy has confirmed that Thailand has sufficient oil reserves following the situation in which Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz. As of March 1, 2026, Thailand’s total oil supply — including domestic reserves and shipments in transit — stands at 7.66 billion liters, enough to meet domestic demand for approximately 60 days. The ministry emphasized that there has been no impact on the country’s oil reserves or domestic fuel prices at this time.
The Minister of Energy has ordered a temporary suspension of oil exports and the activation of an emergency energy monitoring center to closely track developments. The government is also prepared to utilize the Oil Fuel Fund to stabilize domestic prices should global oil prices rise. In addition, authorities are accelerating natural gas production in the Gulf of Thailand and operating power plants at full capacity to strengthen energy security, while urging the public to remain calm and use energy efficiently.
