Thailand Intercepts Over 100 Tons of Hazardous Waste Hidden in Aluminum Scrap from the U.S.

The Department of Industrial Works, in collaboration with the Customs Department, has seized over 110 tons of imported “aluminum scrap” from the United States at Laem Chabang Port after discovering it was contaminated with electronic waste and other hazardous materials. The shipment is classified as hazardous waste under the Basel Convention and was imported without proper authorization, in violation of Thai law.

Authorities are preparing to return the shipment to its country of origin immediately, while reinforcing strict measures to prevent Thailand from becoming a dumping ground for foreign waste.
