On March 10, 2026, officials from the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), together with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Customs Department, and related agencies, inspected suspicious cargo containers suspected of illegally importing electronic and plastic waste into Thailand. The shipments were reportedly declared as metal scraps to evade inspection.
Initial inspections of 18 containers revealed electronic circuit boards mixed with metal waste, weighing over 284,919 kilograms. Authorities have also seized a total of 714 suspicious containers.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Suchart Chomklin stated that Thailand will return the hazardous waste to the country of origin and take legal action against those involved. He emphasized that “Thailand is not the world’s dumping ground.” In 2025, Thailand had already returned more than 5 million kilograms of electronic waste to their countries of origin.
