Kenya Flood Crisis Leaves at Least 66 Dead

Kenya is experiencing continuous heavy rainfall, causing severe flooding across several parts of the country over the past week. The disaster has claimed at least 66 lives, with authorities reporting four additional deaths on March 15, 2026.

Nairobi, the capital city, has been among the hardest-hit areas. Floodwaters in some locations reached up to 2 meters, and 33 of the total deaths were reported in the city. The Kenya Red Cross has been assisting affected residents, including rescuing passengers from a public minibus stranded in floodwaters and saving two children from a flooded home.

The floods have also damaged roads, bridges, and several schools. Kenyan authorities have warned that heavy rains are expected to continue and have urged residents in low-lying areas to move to safer locations. So far, more than 2,000 people have been relocated to temporary shelters.

The disaster has also impacted neighboring countries. In Ethiopia, flooding and landslides in the southern region have reportedly caused more than 100 deaths.
