“Toxic Waste Travels Far — Who Monitors It, and Who Is Responsible?”
Understanding the “Cradle to Grave” System Every Factory Must Know
Every year, industrial factories, hospitals, and laboratories across the country generate massive amounts of hazardous waste, including corrosive substances, toxic chemicals, and infectious waste. However, the law does not allow such waste to be disposed of freely.
The “Cradle to Grave” system requires waste generators to take responsibility from the very first day the waste is created until the day it is permanently disposed of in a secure hazardous landfill.
The entire 8-step process — from waste classification, packaging, specialized transportation, to high-temperature incineration above 850°C — is regulated by the Department of Industrial Works and local authorities.
At the heart of the system is the “Manifest Form” — a transportation tracking document used to monitor every kilogram of hazardous waste, making illegal dumping traceable and enforceable under the law.
