Thailand Environment Institute (TEI) Launches “EPD” Label for Environmental Verification, Ensuring Sustainable Consumer Confidence
The Thailand Environment Institute (TEI), through its Green Label and Environmental Labeling Division, recognizes the severe impact of global climate change caused by increasing greenhouse gas emissions from industrial production. In response, TEI continues to develop environmental protection strategies while promoting the country’s economic growth.
As part of its quality policy, the Green Label program is committed to certifying high-quality, environmentally friendly products in accordance with international standards. Marking another significant milestone in fostering sustainable consumption confidence, TEI has introduced a new label: the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD).
The EPD label is a Type III environmental label, certified under ISO 14025, and is essential for product manufacturers. It serves as a verified mark confirming the environmental impact report of a product by an accredited body. This ensures transparency, accountability, and consumer trust by providing clear, verifiable data about the product’s composition and environmental footprint.
The EPD label operates on a voluntary basis, requiring manufacturers to conduct a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to evaluate their product’s environmental impact. A third-party certification body verifies this information. This label offers significant advantages to manufacturers, helping them meet international market demands, reduce certification costs with foreign agencies, and enhance the expertise of domestic assessors and producers.
